A trip to a Korean plastic surgery clinic - stays, the airport and the days after surgery
In 2025, 2,011,822 foreign patients visited Korean hospitals; about 233,000 of them (11.2%) came for plastic surgery, second only to dermatology.

It covers only what you decide yourself around the clinic you booked: where to stay, how to get there from the airport, and the days after surgery.
Before you go
- Clinics that take foreign patients must register with the government. To register, each department treating foreign patients needs at least one board-certified specialist, and the clinic must carry medical malpractice liability insurance (or belong to a medical liability mutual aid association). Registration is renewed every three years. Before booking, ask the clinic whether it is registered.
- If a medical dispute arises, you can consult the Korea Medical Dispute Mediation and Arbitration Agency (free consultation 1670-2545). Foreign patients can apply for mediation the same way Korean patients can.
- Medical Korea's help line (1577-7129, from abroad +82-1577-7129) offers foreign patients interpretation, hospital guidance and counselling.
- The VAT refund for foreigners' cosmetic procedures and plastic surgery ended on 31 December 2025 and is not available as of October 2026. Older articles promising a tax refund no longer apply.
- When you can fly home and which days you need to go back to the clinic depend on the surgery. Check with the clinic doing your surgery before you book your stay and flight.
