Welcome to Dongmakgol
A mountain village where South Korean soldiers, North Korean soldiers, and UN forces meet. The setting of a film seen by 8 million people, where Kim's house and Dongmak Wind Cave still remain.
Located in Pyeongchang, Gangwon-do, the Dongmakgol village is famous as the filming site of director Park Kwang-hyun's film 'Welcome to Dongmakgol'. This film, which depicts the conflict and reconciliation between South Korean, North Korean, and UN forces, drew 8 million viewers nationwide and won Best Picture and Best Supporting Actress awards at prestigious film festivals both domestically and internationally. Following the film's success, over 100,000 tourists visit this location annually. The well-preserved filming site features iconic locations: Dongmak Wind Cave at the entrance of an old coal mine, Teacher Kim's house, a 500-year-old pavilion tree that symbolized ideological unity among soldiers and residents, and a crashed U.S. fighter jet. Nearby attractions include Yeongwol Coal Mine Culture Village, Pyeongchang Rock Park, and Baekryong Cave.
