The Book of Fish
Two thatched-roof cottages on a hillside overlooking Heuksan Island, the place of exile for Jung Yak-jeon. From the verandah, you can see Ui Island and Heuksan Island across the sea.
Located on a hillside in Docho Island, Sinan County, this site is famous as a filming location for the film 'Sajaneogbo'. Two traditional thatched-roof houses sit where views of Heuksan Island—the exile home of the film's protagonist, Jeong Yak-jeon—are visible across the water. From the main hall's veranda, you can see Ui Island and the more distant Heuksan Island beyond. On summer evenings, cool sea breezes drift up from the shore, and the sunsets viewed from here are renowned for their beauty. The open vistas evoke a sense of peace, while the low stone walls encircling the cottages create a charming, nostalgic atmosphere. Docho Island is known as the hydrangea island among Sinan's 1,004 islands, with stunning rocky coastlines and pristine waters. Connected to Bigeum Island by bridge and accessible by car, the site offers not only the iconic thatched houses but also scenic nearby beaches and hillside paths leading to the waters beyond, all worthy of admiration.
