The most famous feature is the set that faithfully recreates Gwanghwamun. With traditional Korean houses and market streets spread out widely, it feels like you're walking through the Joseon era.
Drama sets including <킹덤>, <옷소매 붉은 끝동>, and <해를 품은 달> are connected with Mungyeong Provincial Park. The Gwanghwamun set, which vividly recreates Gwanghwamun Gate, is one of the most famous spots. Various sets with different atmospheres—including traditional Korean house villages, market streets, and commoner villages—are spread across a large area, creating the feeling of time traveling to the Joseon Dynasty. The reason for establishing the filming location at Mungyeong Saejae was, above all, that the mountain terrain of Chorungsan and Juchulsan resembles Songaksan Mountain of Gaeseong, the capital of Goryeo, and the old roads are well preserved, making it very suitable for historical drama filming. The current Mungyeong Saejae Open Set was completed on April 16, 2008, after demolishing the previous Goryeo-era-based sets and reconstructing them with a new Joseon Dynasty appearance, with support from Mungyeong City's production funding. The construction cost was 7.5 billion won, and the scale includes 103 buildings on a 70,000㎡ site, such as Gwanghwamun, Gyeongbokgung Palace, Donggung Palace, Seowungwan, Gyeolnae Gagsа, and yangban houses, along with the existing 22 thatched-roof houses and 5 tile-roofed houses, for a total of 130 set buildings. ◎ Travel Information to Experience the Charm of Korean Wave The 'Mungyeong Saejae Open Set,' which served as the background for the capital of Daeho Kingdom in <환혼>, is famous not only as a filming location for <환혼> but also for many historical dramas including <킹덤>, <슈룹>, and <해를 품은 달>. With this set's background of the Joseon Dynasty, anyone curious about the Joseon Dynasty in dramas will be amazed by the vivid sense of reality, as if stepping into the past.
