Day Trip: Daejeon's Forests and Lakes

Duration: Day trip

One hour from Seoul by KTX. While Daejeon is known as a city people pass through, venture beyond the city center and you'll find paths lined with metasequoia forests and scenic lakes. A single day—departing in the morning and returning in the evening—is all you need.

Itinerary

  1. 1

    Jangtaesan Natural Recreation Forest

    San 15-beon, Jangan-dong, Seo-gu, Daejeon

A forest of towering metasequoias. Walk across the high bridges suspended between the trees and experience the forest from its heart. This kind of immersive forest walkway is rare in Korea.

  2. 2

    Ggyeejok Mountain Red Clay Trail

    485 Jang-dong, Daedeok-gu, Daejeon

A stunning 14-kilometer path lined with vibrant red clay soil. Many visitors enjoy walking barefoot, though shoes are perfectly fine. You don't need to complete the entire route—walk at your own pace.

  3. 3

    Daecheong Lake Nature Waterside Park

    328 Chu-dong, Dong-gu, Daejeon

A large lake nestled between Daejeon and Cheongju. Multiple walking paths wind along the shoreline, and whichever route you take, you'll encounter few crowds.

Something to bring the trip home

Studios in Hongdae, Seongsu and Bukchon shoot Korean-style profile photographs. Some do the hair and make-up as well, and most want to be booked in advance.
